My task was to successfully capture our current students’ experiences, and speak directly to a young audience. The redesign had to strike a balance between engaging the University’s core visual identity while still distinguishing itself from its more formal publications like the prospectus.

I created bespoke cover and interior illustrations capturing students’ stories. Colourful, graphic and bold, the artwork set it apart from the standard Higher Education sector use of photography portraying students around laptops and books.

I showcased commissioned photography and candid shots of campus life, replacing generic stock imagery used in previous issues. The result was immediately more relatable, compelling and direct. I introduced a more portable format to bring a fresh feel to the publication. Adopting uncoated paper to enhance the tactile quality, I shifted it away from the throwaway associations of glossy, freebie magazines.
